In September 1999, Regional Wildlife Park (E.N.R.) launched an educational operation (caring for the environment) for pupils ; in the n°24 edition of « Cahier des enfants », devoted to the discovery of the Opal Coast.

Under the name of « Focus of the Opal Coast », this operation, financed by the Coastal Developement Fund, looked to mobilise the largest number of institutional, technical, educational and associative partners on the Opal Coast.

« Cap sur la Côte d’Opale », the n° 24 edition of « Cahier des enfants », offers a wide view of the activities and landscapes of the regional maritime façade. It offers a number of in depth explanations on the coastline : development of the  area, economic activities and man's impact on the environment.

Operation « Focus of the Opal Coast » ended with a Festival uniting 2000 children along the seabord .

The meeting of the selected classes with the various environmental actors was to greet and reward the classes which participated in the competition. An educational day-out on the Opal Coast was lead by two of the partipating actors.

We are therefore invited on 24th March 2000 to a beach, east of Calais, at « Fort -Vert », in order to discover the work of C.M.N.F., its working environment and activities. The children are able to discover and to recognise in reality what they have learned with an association involved in marine ecology.

One  morning, we are on the water's edge, paying attention when we suddenly see some Common Seals (or Harbour Seals) !
This activity is organised by the C.M.N.F.

The objective of the C.M.N.F.is to study wild sea mammals in the North of France. Created in 1993, its first mission was the study and preservation of bats. Continuing with the work on bats, the director set up the Marine Mammal Group run by Jacky. The objective of this group is to study the marine ecosystem along the coastline, and to create an inventary of species of mammals frequenting or being washed ashore, in order to preserve them succesfully. A campaign to inform and to increase public awareness in schools and the general public is equally engaged in order to make this area better known.
