Here is the result of our work :

 ALGUES


We have learnt the alg is collected from the sea bed by a boat equipt with a "scoubidou".

The alg is used in the manufacturing of toothpaste, medecine, ice cream, gelapied products 
and facial beauty creams.

Yes ! When you eat an ice-cream or take certain medecine you are eating algue.

   However, the exploitation of algue does  
   have its problems : 
   les bateaux qui dégazent rejettent 
   1 % de leur cargaison totale. 
   Tu imagines donc qu'ils polluent la mer et 
   les algues ne supportent pas la pollution !

   De plus, comme tous les végétaux, 
   les algues produisent de l'oxygène. 
   A cause de la pollution, ce phénomène 
   sera également détruit.

In sea water we find above all salt and 
oligo-elements such as magnesium.

To extract the salt, shallow basins are formed 
by the sea wher the water evaporated with 
the sun and wind and then the salt is collected :
these are the salt beds.

   Le sel est également menacé par    la pollution provoquée par le dégazage 
   des bateaux en mer ou par les marées noires.

  Si nous polluons trop la mer, elle va perdre
   toutes ses richesses et ce sera très grave
   pour les générations futures.

The sea has got problems ! Catching the right sized fish isn't always easy …
  • If the nets are too small, all the fishes, big and small, are caught.
    The small fishes which are caught cannot grow and reproduce.
  • Some fishermen do not respect the law.
  • At sea, there could be a problem of over fishing and therefore not enough fish.
  • Sometimes the fishermen accidently catch animals such as turtles and dolphins in their nets.
    If they are not released quickly they die.

Solutions to the problems :
   
   - Net sizes should be made bigger 
so as not to catch smal fish.

   - Little fish shouldn't be caught
 because the clients want only big fish 
and it is also a waste

At the bottom of the sea wells of petrol 
can be found. 
Man has made oil rigs to extract the petrol. 
We do this even with remote-controlled robots.

With petrol we produce :

  • Plastic,

  • Textiles,

  • Rubber,

  • Fertilizer,

  • Perfume,

  • Medecine,

  • Chewing gum...

   Problèmes et risques du pétrole :
 
  - Pollution de l'eau par le dégazage 
  des bateaux en mer.
  - Marées noires
  - On ne sait pas comment éliminer 
  les vieilles plates-formes
  - Il faudrait donner des amendes très fortes 
  aux bateaux qui font le dégazage sauvage 
  en pleine mer.
