In
June, Barbara, producer of Pegase Production, spends the day at
school in order
to get to know our class.
We
work in small groups studying protected areas in France, then Barbara
presents
the different projects in her documentary concerning the
seals in Calais :
-
Day out with CMNF (Association for the protection of marine
maamals)..
- First aid given when a seal is stranded on the beach.
- The departure of a stranded seal to the Seal Care Centre
at Pieterburen, in the Netherlands.
- Adoption of a stranded seal.
- The departure of a group of pupils to Pieterburen.
- The release of a seal into the North Sea (Wadden Sea)
The
filming begins in spring 2000 (Day out with C.M.N.F) and continues in
September,
on our return to school.
A
part is filming in class where we work in groups. That concerns :
-
The presentation of the seals on a sandbank east of Calais.
- The study of the seals'natural environment along our
coastline.
- Sea pollution (the English Channel)
- Pollution of the food chain.
- Dangers and problems for the seals.
- The protection of the seals on our coastline.
Other
filming takes place at the Animal Rescue Centre (L.P.A.) in CALAIS
where a young seal
was stranded. The L.P.A. gives first aid and then
the young seal is sent to the small village
of Pieterburen in the North of the Netherlands.
We
keep in touch with Holland to have information on the seal we decided to
adopt .
We
ourselves finance a part of the care of our protected baby seal « PELOTE ».
Some
of our class members go to the care centre in Pieterburen... They are
so lucky.
But they have to work as they must report back to us...
