Presence and colonisation of the seals
in the North Sea

European Project 2001

The pupils of St Anne's CM1 launched a project during the year 2000, 
« FOCUS on the SEALS of 
the OPAL COAST ».

Their project succeeded with the cooperation of Regional Wildlife Park, of the CMNF (Association for the
protection of marine mammals) and of
various actors on the Opal Coast  ("Observatoire du Littoral",
Nature Warden, etc ….) and of 
the Seal Care Centre of PIETERBUREN
(in the North of NETHERLANDS).

Their educational visits, their research, their work, their journey to Pieterburen… were filmed by Barbara Courcelle, producer of PEGASE Production. (Lille)

In the year 2001, the project continues along the North Sea coastline with the various partners :

Participation in an European educational project

- To make the pupils sensitive to the variety of European cultures.

- To become aware of European citizenship.

- To discover the resemblances and the differences of countries belonging to the E.U.

- To discover the need to exchange information over the Internet.

- To require children to communicate in another language than their mother tongue.

 

Objectives

- To make the children aware of the presence and arrival of seals on the Opal Coast and 
on the coasts of the North Sea.

- To discover what has been organised for the protection of Harbour Seals through European legislation.

- To discover the areas protected on the European coasts.

- To study and to compare the coastal landscapes, their natural evolution and their alteration. (Ports - Tunnel - Polders…)

- To discover the regional development and the economic activities of the various European countries.

- To study the activities of man on the Opal Coast and in the North Sea and their consequences on the environmental life of the seals.

- To communicate, to exchange information and documents with other children who speak another language in the E.U. using information technology such as the telephone and the Internet.
